There is a rather large minority Kazakh-Mongol population that speaks both Kazakh and Mongolian.
Dörgön in Khovd Province is a center of the Dorbed (Or Durvud) People, originally strong as the fourth branch of the Dzungar Alliance which arising in the 16th century was ultimately crushed by the neighboring Khalka in alliance with the much more powerful Manchu Qing Dynasty (1644 AD - 1911). Since the defeat of the Dzungar Khanate halfway the 18th century and the absorption of Mongolia into the territories of the Manchu Qing Empire the Oolod, who were one of the largest tribes among the Dzungar, have scattered and much diminished in number have generally moved westward from their original territories (among things in Khovsgol Province). The original grazing grounds then fell to the Khalka.
The Erdenebüren Sum of Khovd Province is nationally recognized as the center of the Ooled (Uulds) People and population withing current day Mongolia and the Erdenebüren Sum is the only place in Mongolia where the Ooled Language is still spoken. Other groups of the Ooled live in Olziit Sum of Arkhangay Aimag where they have integrated with the majority population of the Khalka, losing their native language skills and various cultural traits specific to the Ooled.
