Sichuan has a long history and was once the place of the Ba and Shu States during the Spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, therefore, possessing a great number of cultural relics and historic sites. Besides, it also boasts many famous mountains and waters, which form a beautiful and magnificent natural landscape.
Sichuan, with its abundance and variety is nationally renowned for its fabulous scenery. Among these are the scenic areas of Mount Emei and Mount Qingcheng-Dujiangyan, then there is the Huanglong Temple-Jiuzhaigou, Ancient Plank Road in jianmen, Mt. Gongga, Xiling Snowcapped mountain. The south Sichuan bamboo sea and the internationally famous Wolong Panda Refuge are in south Sichuan.
Furthermore, to reflect the stunning beauty of the province, its culture as well as its history the scenic areas of Huanglong Temple Jiuzhaigou, and Mount Emei with it's Giant Buddha of Leshan have been included in the Unesco listing of World Cultural Heritage Sites. Other scenic spots such as Du Fu's Thatched Cottage in Chengdu are well-visited.

Sichuan is divided into Climatic Zones depending on location, topography and altitude. The eastern basin enjoys a subtropoic climate, warm and humid, with an annual average temperature of 16-18°C. The mountainous areas in the westonthecontrary have a highland continental climate, with the annual average temperature of 6-12 °C. The precipitation is lower in the west than in the east.
