Shanhaiguan District is a part of Qinhuangdao City Prefecture in Eastern Hebei Province. As can be seen on adjacent Map of Hebei Province and surrounding regions the Shanhaiguan District is the only county or district of Qinhuangdao situated on the eastern side of the city of Qinhuangdao proper.
Shanhaiguan as the home of the first and greatest fortified Gate found along the Great Wall of China in the East is also the oldest and most historic part of Qinhuangdao Prefecture and City.
The main part of the Great Wall of China found in Shanhaiguan District is thus the Fortress Gate City of Shanhaiguan. In addition, several other sections of the Great Wall can be found connecting the fortress to the Sea at Laolongtou Old Dragon's Head and in the other direction connecting the fortress to the nearby Mountains through which it then leads away to the Capital of Beijing.
