The S301 Provincial Road has a bridge across the Yellow River giving access to the town of Baode in Xinzhou City Prefecture of Shanxi Province and the regions beyond. Please mind: The S301 Road is usually clogged with lines of trucks hauling coal between Inner Mongolia and the industries in adjacent Shanxi Province.

In November of 2010 it was announced to the world that the national survey of cultural relics had established the existence of a large filed of ceramic (pottery) shards within Fugu County of Shaanxi Province. The ancient ceramic site reportedly covers an area of about 200,000 square kilometers which ranks it as the largest ancient ceramic site discovered in North Shaanxi history.
The newly-found ancient ceramic site lies in Ciyaogou Country, Haizemiao Village of Fugu County. Through the investigation, the experts preliminary judge the cluster of ceramic shards and other left overs may be dated to the period of Jin, Song and Yuan Dynasty (1271 AD-1368 AD), all in the first millenium AD.
Altogether 1521 culture relics in Fugu County have been discovered and the newly-discovered ceramic cultural relics include 19 ancient city cites, 30 ancient buildings, 26 ancient tombs, 2 ancient residences, 2 ancient fossil locations, 10 grottos and 17 ancient carved stones and so on, all of which have provided reliable basis for potential study about ancient ceramics of Fugu County. In addition, a large amount of Yangshao cultural relics of the Neolithic Age has been discovered as well, which mainly include red potteries and colored potteries.
According to the official report by the Cultural Relics Preservation Bureau; "The discovery of ancient ceramic sites in Fugu County has not only filled the blank of the previous study about the ancient culture of Fugu County, but also has provided strong physical evidence for the later study of the culture in North Shaanxi". What this means in effect is that archeologists and historians will be studying the results received from the site for years to come.

A serious lack of water, especially quality potable water is reported from across Fugu County. The lack of water reportedly severely limits the industrial development of the county. Apparently, an underground karst water flow identified as the Tianqiao Spring Basin (Heavenly Bridge Water Spring) partially lies underneath the county. The use of underground water is however fraught with problems, among them the level of "hardness" i.e. the presence of minerals found dissolved in the water making it relatively unfit for industrial use.

Fugu is the northernmost rural county of the Yulin City Prefecture in the north of Shaanxi Province. The town of Fugu, which is the administrative center of the larger Fugu County, is situated to the north east of Yulin City proper and along the great Yellow River (Huang He) opposite the County Town of Baode a part of Xinzhou City Prefecture in adjacent Shanxi Province. However the Fugu County extends well to the north of its central town in fact shaping the very northernmost tip of Shaanxi Province.
Taken clockwise around, in the north Fugu County borders on Ejin Horo Banner ( 伊金霍洛旗 ; ᠡᠵᠢᠨ ᠬᠣᠷᠣᠭᠠ ᠬᠣᠰᠢᠭᠤ) and then Junggar Banner (准格尔旗 ; ᠵᠡᠭᠦᠨᠭᠠᠷ ᠬᠣᠰᠢᠭᠤ ) of Ordos City Prefecture (鄂尔多斯市) in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. In the east the County is limited and bordered by the Yellow River which with its body shapes the border with adjacent Xinzhou City Prefecture of Shanxi Province. To the south lies more of Shanxi Province albeit across the Yellow River and in the west Fugu County is bordered by Shenmu County which is also part of Yulin City Prefecture.
Geographically speaking Fugu County lies upon the loess plateaux which shapes most of northern Shaanxi Province. To the north lies the slightly higher Mongolian Plateaux consisting (traditionally) of grasslands however all of Fugu County consists of the eroded dusty hills, steep cravices and ravines of the loess plateaux and the Mu Us Desert (Maowusu). Fugu County is therefor an extremely arid part of the Province.
Most of the landscape is extremely eroded and hilly with little of the surface area available for agriculture. Traditionally the main thoroughfares for traffic in the county are several rivers which cut their valleys through the loess plateaux offering some flat land available to build towns and roads. The town of Fugu itself for instance is situated at the downstream end of the Gushan River and the main S301 Provincial Road leading from Yulin City down to Fugu town follows the route of this river. In a similar fashion, all other main towns of this county and neighboring counties are found situated along river valleys and as one may find, the Great Wall of
By far the most popular site or in case, sites to visit, is the Great Wall of China of the Ming Dynasty, the ruined length of which still stretches across the hilltops near Qiankouze Village (Qiankouze Cun) in Fugu County of Yulin. Additional tourist sites registered are the Yulin Fugu Dusong Natural Reserve, a very sparsely visited site, and the Fuzhou City (Fuzhoucheng) Ancient Ruins which represent the site of an ancient Ming Era Fortress such as were found strategically positioned all along the length of the Great Wall of China.
China as found in these regions usually has its fortifications in a blocking defensive position with fortresses in the valleys, and fire beacons, watchtowers and wall cutting across the loess hills and connecting to the next adjacent valley where a similar situation could be found. Although not all of the original Great Wall of the Ming Era remains standing one may find a very interesting section to climb and hike along just due north-east of Fugu Town. The route follows the above mention S301 Provincial Road from Fugu upstream along the Gushan River (Gushan He) to a location well above Gushan Town where a smaller road identified as Yeda Line splits off to lead northward the main tourist destinations of Fugu County. Almost all travelers in Fugu County find themselves naturally attracted to Qiankouze Village (Qiankouze Cun) which is the main location to see and explore the Great Wall of China in these parts.
Due to the arduous living conditions and lack of water on the northern loess plateaux, the population of Fugu County is extremely sparse (with an overall density of some 65 humans per square kilometer in 2004).
Currently the main branch of the economy in Fugu County is the coal mining industry. In addition, satellite imagery reveals oil- and gas drilling activity. Although Fugu County is legendary from events during China's revolutionary and Civil Wars and also is a county of the Great Wall of China of the Ming Dynasty (1368 AD - 1644 AD) currently the tourism industry is underdeveloped. Not too many
